HISTORY

Nestled among the serene lush green hills and valleys of Kakkanad, lies the Mar Thoma Public School. The School endeavours to combine traditional values with modernity in education in a calm ambience that is conducive to learning. The proximity to the IT hub, while being an advantage, doesn’t impair the beauty of the natural surroundings of the School.

The formation of the School in 1990, was the outcome of the meeting of a group of visionaries who dared to dream. The robust structure of the School stands as a testimony to the relentless effort made by the Founders of this School.

The Mar Thoma Educational Society (MTES) was formed after many discussions initiated by the Marthomites of the Ernakulam Centre. Around 60 members from Ernakulam formed the Society and it was decided that the society would start an educational institution under the banner of the Mar Thoma Public School.His Grace Late Rt. Rev. Dr. Zacharias Mar Theophilus Episcopa met the members and decided to form a Board to work on the establishment of the Mar Thoma Public School (MTPS).The General Body convened an election and 13 members with Very Rev. P. T.Thomas, Vicar of Salem Mar Thoma Church, Ernakulam, as President, of MTES to form the first Board of Directors. On 7th June 1990,the School Office was inaugurated under the auspices of Thirumeni.

The Kindergarten classes and the Play School found their humble beginnings in Panampilly Nagar, in a building offered by the Founder Member, Mr.Kurian Poulose. The President and the first Board members visited the Middle-Eastern countries like UAE, Kuwait, Muscat, Qatar, Bahrain etc. and admitted around 200 members to the Society. It was then that they ventured on the construction of the existing building. The School started with classes I to VIII providing residential facilities for boys and girls which brought an influx of Marthomite children from the UAE and other parts of the world. We marched ahead under the leadership of the Chief Patrons and the priests appointed as Presidents of the Society. Along with the Mar Thoma Public School (MTPS), the Society also started the Kindergarten in Vyttila and the Kochi Business School in Kakkanad. The present Chief Patron of the Society is, His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulose and the President is Rev. K G Joseph.

The Mar Thoma Public School is now a full-fledged school which has steadily increased in numbers over the last 27 years and expanded its functioning over the sprawling 10 acres of land. Including the Kindergarten, the School can now boast of about 1700 students, a team of qualified and dedicated staff of around 80 with an adequate number of staff to maintain the hygiene sanitation and facade of the School.

Our values being mission-oriented, the children who have been through our hands, have faced the world and contributed meaningfully to society. We intend to progress in our effort with the ever-changing challenges of the educational scenario. Our sole motivation is our compassion for our children and the best interest of the society at large. We hope the parents and other stakeholders will render the support that is essential for the growth of the institution. We also look forward to the support of our Alumni in the coming years.
